Walk/Run

I've never been a runner. I'm a walker. I could walk for hours and hours. But running, that's hard.

But for some reason, every May I'm hit with the desire to run. And so I try. I really get into it,  for about three weeks. And then it gets hot or it rains one day or I just don't feel like it and suddenly, I'm done. Back to walking.

Running has never come easy to me. I didn't like it as a kid and honestly, I still don't really like it. Why even bother? Because if I can run, even just a short 30 minutes, then I'd accomplish something I've never done before. That would feel good.

Well, it's May again and the bug has hit again. The weather is beautiful and I live by some of the best running areas in the city. Who knows? Maybe this time it will stick. If not, walking will always be there for me.

Barbette

When you're looking for something quaint and a little bit Parisian, head over to Barbette. It's cute, it's lively, it's delicious. We managed to catch the last few minutes of happy hour to get drinks before we dived into the bit more spendy dinner menu. The food was top notch and absolutely incredible. He had the lobster risotto and I had the seared wild acre chicken with the most incredible cornbread cake.   I cannot wait to go back to try their brunch menu! Until then, enjoy the photos:

Food Happenings

Here's an update on great food/beverage choices I've been making lately.

Sociable Cider Werks: For Cider Lovers! They also have a few beers on tap. Fun, crowded atmosphere. There are lots of games to play (if you can get a table). I say, go earlier to be the night time crowd. We tried the Freewheeler - a basic cider that is really sweet. It was a bit to sweet for me, but I enjoyed sipping it throughout the night.

When Friends Come to Visit

I love when people come to visit me because I get to show my friends everything I love about the fabulous city I call home. Typically, it's just me and mom playing house at Ikea but this time I had a special visit from my high school friend Kelsey.

Happy New Year!

New Year's is a fun holiday. It's all about celebrating with great friends, remember the past year and making plans for the next. The end of the year can always be bittersweet. For some, it might have been the best year yet, graduating, starting a new job, getting engaged, or just having a lot of fun; for others, it can be a relief to start over. While nothing ever really changes, it feels good to have a refresh button on life. For I'm very excited for 2014! This is going to be a great year.

Home.

A few weeks ago, I got the chance to spend a relaxing weekend at home. I went home to spend time with my mom for her birthday, but mostly I spent the chance to rewind and relax. Home is where you can bake all the food you desire, watch a Harry Potter movie marathon, go out for breakfast everyday, tell your friends your busy and spend all Saturday night curled up on the couch reading a good book. It always feels delightful to escape my regular life and go home.

For me, home is away. Just a short few hour drive, but still a ways away. While I'd love to be closer at times, it makes it all the more special when I get the chance to be home.

Al's Breakfast

The end of daylight savings time was this weekend and I hope you celebrated your extra hour as we all 'fall back!'

I sure did! My good friend Claire was in town visiting and we had ourselves a good ol' fashioned sleepover. By this I mean, we got all dolled up then lost all our energy to actually go anywhere. So, we tucked in for a movie and both fell asleep... Classic.
