Duluth? That's in North Dakota.

Duluth this weekend actually felt a bit like I would imagine Seattle to be like. (The title of this post comes from the classic movie Sleepless in Seattle. For those who are a bit shaky on their geography, Duluth is in Minnesota, right on Lake Superior) The fog and the rain, I actually found it to be quiet peaceful. There is an energy that comes from beautiful weather but sometimes you need to relax and I appreciate the rain's reminder to do so.

However, we ignored that message and headed out on another day of foggy fun. We headed down towards the Lake and explored Leif Erikson Park and Rose Garden.  Not many roses to be seen yet, but still plenty to explore. The park has a trail that connects you all the way down to Canel Park. We journeyed down that direction, but didn't make it all the way.

For those who are interested, Norse explorer Leif Erikson is considered by some to be the actual 'Discoverer of America,' some 500 years before the much more famous Christopher Columbus. It's pretty unclear as to where Erikson actually discovered America, so this is one of the many statues of Leif in the country. But given Minnesota's strong Nordic roots, it makes sense that we try and claim him.

For those who care less for history, the park is still a beautiful site.

We wondered around for a while and took in the foggy abyss. You could barely see the shoreline from the park. While not the typical idyllic view of Duluth, it's still a sight to behold.

There is a passenger train called the North Shore Scenic Railroad that looks pretty fun. We saw a train roll by us and its way to the heart of Duluth. Something to check out on a beautiful day.

Next we decided to venture off the trails and down to the shore. The lake had a trendy ombre effect going on. So we skipped some rocks and took the opportunity to take some fun pictures.

Nope, still can't see anything...

Once back on the trail, we took a few more photos and collected some rocks. Claire even found some in the shape of a heart. Cute!

After we wore ourselves out, it was time for me to head back to Minneapolis. On my way out of town, I saw the fog was hanging even lower over Canel Park. I quickly took the next exit, drove through a dodgy part of town and parked illegally to capture a beautifully, haunting photo. I took two quick photos and hopped in my car and hit the road before the big security guys had time to even give me a ticket. Let's just keep this between you and me. Hehe!
